Alhaji Muhammed Munir Ja’afaru OFR graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelors of Law (LL.B) honours (1979) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1980. Alhaji Ja’afaru also holds a Masters of Law (LL.M) from the same university (1983). He started his career as a Lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1981-1983. He attended the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (1991). He was at various times the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Honourable Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kaduna State. From 2001-2005. He was the President, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines & Agriculture (KADCCIMA).

He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited. He was a one-time Director-General and Chief Executive of National Maritime Authority, and also a Director in many organisations like Nigerian Hotels Limited, Leasing Company of Nigeria, Chairman, NEM Insurance Plc, AIFA Reading Society, Tantalizers Plc, amongst others. He was the Chairman of the Nigerian Export Processing & Free Trade Zone (NEPZA), and serves in various Federal/State committees and Non-Governmental Organizations.
